Currently the largest mobile venue in the world the Arts Alliance Productions mobile performance venue or MPV designed by Various Architects can hold a standing audience of up to 3500 people in its performance space. It was designed specifically for “ID – Identity of the Soul” a multi-screen film about the impact of personal choice on the human spirit, based on Henrik Ibsen's Terje Vigen and Mahmoud Darwish's A Soldier Dreams of White Lilies. The MPV has won both a Spark award and World Architecture Festival award in 2009.

In response to the devastation caused by the ‘Black Saturday’ bushfires in Victoria, Australia, a team of 20 second-year students from Monash University have completed a project for a community shelter at the Kinglake Temporary Village. The village provides accommodation for families who lost their homes in the fires and opened on 3 October. Lead by Silvia Acosta from Rhode Island School of Design, Adrienne Benz, Ross Brewin and Monash Architecture Program Co-ordinator, Diego Ramirez-Lovering, the shelter was built over a 12-day period largely using donated materials. The shelter is a communal facility which includes a performance space, BBQ area and plenty of seating. This multipurpose structure serves to provide a place where the community can come together to discuss future rebuilding and host social events.

50 Years of Design in Argentina
Few independent design studios in the world survive longer than 15 or 20 years. In 2009, Argentinean studio, Diseño Shakespear, celebrates a landmark half century in business! Even more incredible is that its founder, Ronald Shakespear, is still practicing actively. The studio is internationally acclaimed specifically for its innovative work in wayfinding systems and Shakespear is regarded to be one of the fathers of the discipline.

“How many attributes are necessary to define the work of Diseño Shakespear?” asks respected design theorist, Jorge Frascara. His answer: “Concise and precise; simple, but not bare; effective, but with a good sense of humour; and present, present, present, everywhere in Argentina. And also clear, yes: clear.”

Click below to download Frascara’s insightful and retrospective article titled ‘Diseño Shakespear: clarity, hearing, and tenacity’ on the work and achievements of Ronald Shakespear and his studio.
